WHAT IS AMERICAN TAE KWON DO?
Tae Kwon Do was originated in Korea and was introduced to the west in the late 1950’s. It is the most popular of the martial arts practiced in America due largely to its high flying kicks. Because not everyone has the flexibility and strength to perform such gymnastic-type movements, USA Karate has blended other systems together to provide a comprehensive program of self-defense.
These systems and techniques include:
Judo / Jujitsu -- Japanese arts utilizing leverage and body mechanics.
Hapkido -- Korean art using joint locks and joint manipulation.
Ryukyu Kempo -- Blend of Chinese and Okinawan arts. Forerunner to modern Karate.
Tuite / Kyusho - Jitsu -- Okinawan grappling and striking arts using the detailed science of acupuncture and related pressure points.
Modern Arnis -- Filipino stick fighting art that transposes self defense techniques for weapons and empty hand.
Western Boxing -- Footwork and close quarter fighting.
Q. Do children and adults train together?
A. Yes. The interaction between the two promote understanding and acceptance. Children must learn to accept adult discipline while many adults learn patience and understanding. This allows family members to train together.
Q. Am I too old, or is my child to young?
A. Regardless of age, USA Karate is for everyone. Ages five and older train in regular classes, while a special Mighty Mights class is designed for ages 3-5.
